What is Brain Breaks?

Brain Breaks is a collection of short regulation practises to get your students out of their heads, into their bodies and reset!

The Purpose of Brain Breaks is to offer teachers quick 5 minute practises that can be incorporated into any classroom to regulate their students immediately with as little disruption to the time table as possible.

The exercises are broken down into three categories;

Energise / Stretch / Focus

At most all you will need is a chair and some floor space. You will literally stop what your are doing, press play, reset and be back to your work within minutes!

Short. Simple. Effective.

Ideas on how to use the exercises:

Energise.

Let’s say it’s Monday morning, your students are absolutely exhausted and the only way they are communicating is with yawns and grunts. Choose one of the energising practises and get them moving before you sit them at the desk and get them to consume any information!

Stretch.

Lets say it’s Wednesday afternoon, they have the week day slump (And so do you!). They’ve been hunched over their desk and technology all week, and they are disconnected from the work. Choose a stretch practise to help shift some of their heavy energy and refocus.

Focus.

Lets say that’s its Friday just after lunch- students are tired yet hyper as freedom is nearly upon them. You still have a lot of important work to get through, so choose a focus exercise to ground them and bring them back in the room.

There are plenty of scientific studies that show the damaging effects that sitting all day has on our health. A study done by Columbia University, showed that just 5 minutes of movement every hour can have a huge impact. Movement breaks are essential for our physical and emotional health.
